I read this book by Dana and loved it so much this one I sent as a gift to a friend. She tells the story of her life from being a young kid to working alongside George W in fascinating detail. She also does it in such a way you feel as if she's chatting with you in your home. She's included some great pictures as well. I love that she gave us an intimate look into the White House but more importantly gave us an intimate portrayal of George W.If you're interested in politics or entering politics, this is a must read however I'd recommend this book to young adults as she gives lots of great advice, life lessons & good life perspectives. An uplifting read!
My wife asked for this book and I ordered it a while ago. True to Amazon's word it arrived the day of it's actual release. The way she made it into a series of many short stories with very high resolution pictures made it a very good read.I was also impressed with her fairness of other views which is far from normal in todays Political books. She has a very uplifting view of life along with respect of where she came from. My wife and I highly recommend this book regardless of which side of the aisle you are on.
A great lesson in civility and grace despite the pressure Dana felt. I hope that many young people getting started in life will read this book, and heed her ever so gentle advice. Good job Dana Perino.
I bought this, because I like The Five; the concept, the content and the personnel. But who are these folks, really? This young lady, in this memoir, gives us reason to have even more confidence in her and her colleagues. Her preparation for a task is rooted in her upbringing, refined and sculpted by her intelligence, perseverance and people skills. Too, her success is a roller coaster ride not a straight line ascendency. Now, one doesn't have to be in sync with all that she reveals, or about which she opines, to admire her and enjoy the book. For me, it was like watching the show. Much of it is accepted with a subtle fist pump. Humbly, some is improved by my constructive criticism, sotto voce. There is much humor, a bit of gossip, and a prudent amount of experience garnered practical advice throughout. She is a kind of modern and feminine version of Dale Carnegie. It ain't trite: it's pith. You will love her family including her pups, the late-Henry and current Jasper. And the trips to the dog parks will produce a smile or two.Buy the book. It is a very good read with rumination. Dana Perino is the total package!Oh, and "white ho" is not about denigration. It's about attention to detail.
As a 78 year old guy, husband, father, and person who likes to encourage people, this book is a great read. Not having read other reviews I'll be the first to admit I learned a lot. To say that I would recommend this is an understatement. Be prepared to carve out time when you start reading because you won't want to stop. It's captivating! (Whoops, I used an exclamation point).
There's a reason this book is #1...it's interesting, it's full of life lessons, and Dana is a first class lady.I relate to Dana's upbringing where she felt both freedom and protection from being surrounded by people of good character. I agree with her sense of personal responsibility, hard work ethic, and taking ownership for the way you talk to others even if you disagree. These are my favorite types of books to read: Ones where you can follow a little breadtrail to see how one life experience leads to another to another to another. As a counselor, adjunct professor, author and voracious reader, I enjoy hearing about people experiences and trusting God is working out a plan, even when times are hard. This book would make a perfect graduation gift!
“And the Good News Isâ€, is not at all what I expected, and being a #1 New York Times best seller, I expected it to be a lot better than it is. Because of Ms. Perino’s position on the Fox News program, “The Five,†I was expecting a political insider’s in depth view of past and present politics and political figures, like the dozen or so books I’ve recently read, and with some good news from the American political arena, and the world, rather than all the bad news we are being bombarded with during the current presidential race. Also, this work, while interesting in parts, is not the type of recreational reading I typically seek out. But, I bought it, so I read it, but I knew after the first chapter that this was not a book that I “couldn’t lay downâ€.There is no doubt that Ms. Perino is a very intelligent, well-educated, and successful lady who should be proud of her accomplishments thus far in her life, but I knew that without having to read the book. The inside view we get of the private side of Bush 43, in my opinion, saves the book and makes it worth wadding through some of the dog stories and other warm and fuzzy, and mushy stuff. I had great respect for George W. Bush during his first term in office, but during his last term in office, and the years following, my respect has been waning, and in the Florida primary I just couldn’t bring myself to vote for another Bush. “And the Good News Is†has restored my opinion that George W. Bush was in fact a great and insightful leader who was a real person with feelings, and it has reinstated the respect I originally had for him. From stories Ms. Perino relates it is apparent that President Bush had great respect for the office, the country it represents, and the men and women who serve and die to defend it. Something that cannot be said for the current administration.Knowing the content, “And the Good News Is†is not a book I would typically buy, it would probably be of some value to young professionals entering the workforce and seasoned managers who are struggling in today’s workplace (I know a few), so I don’t want to go too hard on Ms. Perino. If you are into autobiographies of successful people you would likely give this book a five star rating.
